The Caulfield School of Dance Philosophy We do not expect every student to pursue a career in the arts, but believe that sound training in the arts gives pupils valuable skills and experience they can apply to every aspect of their lives regardless of what they choose as a career. The overall health and happiness of our students is always our paramount concern. Our continual goal is to give a rich experience of the performing arts to all students, and to provide the professional training required by those who wish to pursue careers as performers, choreographers and/or teachers. We intend that lessons at our school foster self-esteem and enhance understanding of, and sensitivity to, dance, theatre, music and indeed all forms of art. The Caulfield School of Dance produces a large theme show each June in a local venue, most often in the 1281 seat Massey Theatre or Port Coquitlam's Terry Fox Theatre. Beautifully produced presentations such as "The Magical Museum", which brings to life the famous works of Degas, Monet, Matisse and other great artists, delight and educate performers and spectators alike. The school is also active in presenting the performing arts in the community throughout the year giving shows in venues such as the Kitsilano Showboat, local schools, hospitals, rest homes and for charitable events such as the "Evening of Caring" for the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation. Competing and Other Opportunities Each year our students receive numerous awards and scholarships at local performing arts festivals in dance and speech arts competition. Caulfield School of Dance students have been chosen as provincial representatives to the BC Festival of the Arts and have been chosen as Provicial Champions and Runners Up. They have been invited to attend LA Dance Force and prestigious training programs at the National Ballet School, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, L'Ecole Superieure de Danse, the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Vancouver Ballet Society Spring Seminar, and the Ballet BC Mentor Program. Financial Support for Recreational and Intensive Programs We offer multiple course/family discounts. Students demonstrating excellence in effort, attendance and/or achievement are eligible to receive scholarship support; those who wish to pursue a career in dance or theatre arts can, by audition and interview, enter our Performance Training Companies, with concentrations in performance or instruction, and benefit from a fee-ceiling which can provide a substantial subsidy to tuition. a Pleasure, a Passion, a Profession Our best is given to every pupil, from our recreational students to those who express career goals in the performing arts. Caulfield School of Dance graduates have gone on to pursue post-secondary studies in the Fine and Performing Arts and are currently employed as performers and instructors. Students have appeared in print advertising, commercials and television productions and have danced professionally with Ottawa choreographer Anik Bouvret; Vancouver choreographer Holly Bright, and for the BC Lions Cheerleaders, as well as with Cori Caulfield's professional dance and theatre company, Coriograph Theatre.
