Pointe shoes have an architecture which allow for moving on the tips of the feet. Traditional pointe shoes have a hard leather sole and a toe “box” formed and reinforced with canvas and glue; and synthetic pointe shoes replicate the effect of the traditional materials .
Pointe training is always optional except for female students pursuing a career in classical dance and/or Vocational level Royal Academy of Dance ballet examinations. Pointe courses are also open to sufficiently advanced students who are taking sufficient course loads.
Not all bodies can adapt to this extreme mode of dance; to prevent injury, our expert instructors will proceed conservatively with permission to commence pointe work. Please do not buy pointe shoes before receiving permission from your instructor!
Male and female students can take pointe classes in soft shoes to develop posture (core support), “turnout” (external rotation of the legs from the hips), and strength and flexibility of the feet and ankles.
