Jocelyn Gauthier
Voice, Musical Theatre, Acting
Originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, triple threat performer Jocelyn Gauthier began cultivating her love for the arts at a very young age. Jocelyn began playing piano at the age of three, and acting, singing, and dancing shortly thereafter. At the age of nine, she was cast as Mary Lennox in a regional production of “The Secret Garden”, and she never looked back. Jocelyn’s passion for performing, music, and telling stories, combined with her talent and determination, has allowed her to quickly establish herself as a versatile artist, who can transition seamlessly between film, television, theatre, and voice-over.
A dual citizen, Jocelyn moved to Vancouver upon receiving a President’s Entrance Scholarship to study performing arts. She auditioned, and was accepted to train as an actor in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting program at the University of British Columbia. While still attending university, Jocelyn was cast as the lead in a David DeCoteau feature film, and was also a Top 10 Finalist on the CBC Television show “Triple Sensation”, winning an award for Most Outstanding Actress. She graduated from the prestigious U.B.C. conservatory program with distinction, and was immediately accepted into both the American Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in the One Year Masters Classical Acting Program, and trained at the latter.
In addition to acting, Jocelyn has extensive dance training, has been playing classical piano and flute from a very young age, and has been trained in the Classical, Estill, and SLS methods of singing. Her voice training has given her a deep expertise in classical, musical theatre, and popular vocal styles. Her rigorous acting training, combined with her impressive vocal talents and versatility, have allowed her to be successful in many different mediums, winning her numerous awards, and landing her lead roles in almost every one of the more than 30 theatre, musical theatre, and film productions she has been involved in. Selected credits include “The Buddy Holly Story” (The Globe Theatre), “Rock Legends” (Drayton Entertainment/Chemainus Theatre Festival), “Footloose” (Chemainus Theatre Festival), “The Little Prince” (Theatre Calgary, World Premiere), “Snapshots” (Presentation House Theatre, Canadian Premiere), “Les Miserables” (Arts Club Theatre), and Elle Woods, in “Legally Blonde” (TUTS), for which she won an Ovation Award, E.V. Young Award, and an Aida Broadbent Award. Selected Film and Television Credits include “Murder She Baked: Just Desserts” (Hallmark), M&Ms (National Commercial), Comcast (National Commercial), and “Strawman” (Short).
In addition to performing, Jocelyn believes that constant and rigorous training is critical to the development of her craft. She has participated and trained in Masters Workshops with Broadway composers Pasek and Paul, Matthew Barry, the Los Angeles based casting director of “The Notebook”, local casting directors Sean Cossey, Jackie Lind, Tiffany Mak, and Candice Elzinga, a Shaw Festival Masterclass with Tim Carroll, and with Peter Jorgenson during his Musical Theatre Masterclass. She also regularly trains with Nadine Wright at Act II Studios in Vancouver, and has trained with Jebb Beach.
Jocelyn is passionate about providing training opportunities to the young people of the world, and enjoys giving back to the community by passing on her craft to others. She teaches children ages 3 – 18 in musical theatre, singing, and acting. We are so pleased to welcome Ms. Jocelyn to our faculty.
