Caulfield School of Dance students have been having a very busy February! While the entire Ballet section and much of the Modern and Contemporary section of the Chilliwack Lions Club dance festival were cancelled due to the weather, Modern and Contemporary events were rescheduled to last Sunday, February 12, to overlap with Street Dance. So, on the 12th, both of our competitive hip hop numbers competed, with several in our group contemporary piece having to rush off the main stage to compete immediately in the studio theatre with their hip hop piece.
Congratulations to “Grace 2”, choreographed by Cori Caulfield, for placing 1st in their category, Group Contemporary 14 years, and for being awarded the trophy over four categories: Group Modern 13 years, Group Modern 14 years, Group Contemporary 13 years, and Group Contemporary 14 years, by adjudicator Tony Olivares.
Congratulations to “Get It Started”, choreographed by Lauren Taylor, for placing 3rd in Group Street Dance 14 years; and “Love You Like Kanye Loves Kanye”, choreographed by Lauren Taylor, for placing 1st in Group Street Dance 15 years.
Huge congratulations to Elle Cunnings, age 17, who after placing 1st for her Modern solo choreographed by Cori Caulfield, and 3rd for her Contemporary solo choreographed by Crystal Wills, was selected as the Provincial Runner-Up for Senior (ages 16 to 20) Modern and Contemporary Dance.
Sadly, Elle was not able to compete with her jazz group, “Proud Mary” on Friday, February 17, or her lyrical solo the following day, due to injuring herself in an audition earlier in the week.
Congratulations to “Proud Mary“, who in spite of losing two dancers due to school trips and then two more literally last minute due to Elle’s injury, and Mena’s illness, pulled together with Elle’s help, to compete and place 3rd in Group Jazz 15 years.
Many of our students are also doing their R.A.D. Vocational exams last week and into this week.
Good luck to everyone for all events coming up in this very busy month!
