Addendum June 5: Kirsten Volberg placed 1st for her tap solo 15 years, choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle, at Chilliwack festival too!
The Chilliwack Lions Club dance festival concluded on Saturday. After much success in the Modern/Contemporary and Hip Hop sections, we just heard that “Grace 2” (Group Contemporary 14 years) is invited to perform and will receive a special award at the Honours Performance.
The Jazz section began with Alexis Fiorda and Nolen Dubuc’s placing 2nd for their lyrical jazz duo, choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle, followed by Isabel doing her very first competition and her very first solo!
The next morning, Nolen Dubuc was awarded 2nd place for his Solo Lyrical Jazz 9 years. And later that night, Nolen competed again in Group Jazz 12 years: “Scared of Me” which was awarded 3rd place. Both pieces were choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle.
“Last Dance” was awarded 1st place for their group acro dance, choreographed by Lauren Taylor.
The jazz group, “Proud Mary” had to compete without 4 members of its cast due to Mena’s illness, Elle injuring herself in an audition earlier in the week, and two in Quebec for school. Congratulations to “Proud Mary,” choreographed by Lauren Taylor, for pulling together with Elle’s help, and placing 3rd in Group Jazz 15 years.
With many of our students also doing their R.A.D. Vocational exams, it was a very busy week!

And Rachelle Payandeh also competed in Solo Jazz 14 years with her first jazz solo (while feeling pretty yucky!).
Nolen Dubuc placed 2nd for Solo Tap 9 years. Alexis Fiorda competed with her first ever solo, a solo tap, and Taia Fiorda, competed with her first ever solo, and placed 3rd for Solo Tap 8 years.
All competition tap pieces were choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle.
“When I Get My Name In Lights” prepared vocally by Melody Courage and choreographically by Lauren Taylor, placed 1st for Group Song & Dance 9 to 10 years. This was the first competition for many in the group, and the first year of musical theatre for most of them. We are so proud of this group for performing with such energy and commitment!
“Then I Hear That Beat” prepared vocally by Melody Courage and choreographically by Cori Caulfield, placed 1st for Group Song & Dance 13 to 14 years.

Thank you to all the parents and teachers for all your support to the competing students. And thank you to the festival organizers and volunteers who dealt with blizzards, power outages, rescheduling (and more rescheduling!), and more, but kept working their hardest and succeeded again in hosting a great festival for the youth of the lower mainland.
